Sky Lakes honors nurse with DAISY Award

Category

Nichole, a nurse on the Medical and Progressive-Care units at Sky Lakes, is the most recent DAISY Award honoree. The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day.

This is from a patient’s nomination for Nichole:

From the start of my six-day stay, Nichole stood out to me with her friendly demeanor, professional work ethic and overall kind heart. I was in extreme pain and she went over and above to try to cheer me up every time she entered the room. … Every time any procedure was necessary she explained what was happening and how it would affect me and my condition. … She always took the time for casual conversation with me and my family always with a smile and genuine compassion. … Her interaction with the doctor showed her professionalism and also her sense of humor, which put me at ease.

This is from the patient’s family:

I was there every day (the patient) was. Nichole knew us on sight and always made sure we knew how (the patient) was doing. She answered every question we had. When humor was needed, she had a way of making (the patient) smile and laugh. (Her attitude) truly made (the patient) feel better. … She was so very professional but also so very human in her interaction with all of us. We were as stressed as (the patient) was and she made sure we felt better when we left the room every time we were there.

She gives nurses a good name, she deserves to be recognized. She has my heartfelt thanks for the time she spent with (us).

DAISY Award honorees personify Sky Lakes Medical Center’s commitment to excellence. These nurses consistently demonstrate exceptional skill through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.

Patients, their families and friends are encouraged to nominate a deserving nurse by completing a Daisy Award form found in waiting areas throughout the medical center and placing in the Daisy Award drop box or mailing postage-paid.
