Meet Kayla Johnson, RN, our latest Daisy Honoree! Kayla works in our Progressive Care Unit. The DAISY Award is an international program that rewards and celebrates the extraordinary compassionate and skillful care given by nurses every day. Sky Lakes recognizes one of our extraordinary nurses with this special honor each quarter. Nurses are nominated for the DAISY Award by patients, their families and friends.

Kayla was nominated and selected for the Daisy Award because of her compassion towards a patient and his family while providing end-of-life care. Here is Kayla’s nomination:

“Kayla was the night nurse for my grandpa when he was admitted for comfort care/end of life care. She was so kind and supportive during everything. She answered all questions and communicated in a way that was understandable to the non-medical field people in the room, but also talked details with the nurses in our family to give them details the rest of us wouldn’t understand. She was a steady, calm presence while everyone was beginning to grieve and watch his condition decline. She checked in with us and never hesitated to offer support or help where she could. We have a large family that can be intimidating or a lot to handle, but she didn’t seem to mind. She quickly caught onto his needs and would check in with us before we even realized she was needed yet. She left such a positive impression on my whole family. We were thankful for her support during such a difficult time. People like her give Sky Lakes care teams amazing reputations!”

Join us in congratulating Kayla for her exceptional work as a nurse!

DAISY Award honorees personify Sky Lakes Medical Center’s commitment to excellence. These nurses consistently demonstrate exceptional skill through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community.
