Esketamine (Spravato®) Therapy

For individuals living with treatment-resistant depression, esketamine may provide new hope.

What is Esketamine?
Esketamine is an FDA-approved nasal spray used with an oral antidepressant for adults whose depression has not improved with traditional medications.

Benefits include:

  • Works differently than standard antidepressants
  • May provide rapid symptom relief
  • Administered safely in-clinic
  • Closely monitored by medical professionals

A psychiatric evaluation is required to determine eligibility.

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

TMS is a non-invasive, FDA-approved treatment for depression—now available locally.

TMS offers:

  • No surgery
  • No medication
  • No anesthesia
  • No memory loss
  • Immediate return to normal activities

TMS uses gentle magnetic pulses to stimulate areas of the brain involved in mood regulation. Many patients notice improvement within weeks.

Will my insurance cover mental and behavioral health?

Sky Lakes Medical Center and its associated clinics accept a variety of commercial health insurance, workers’ compensation, Medicaid and Medicare plans.

Most insurance companies are required to cover mental health conditions the same way they cover physical health conditions under the federal Mental Health Parity Law. Although Health plans are allowed to exclude certain diagnoses. Please check with your insurance plan if you are uncertain about what is covered.

The Mental Health Parity Law generally applies to:

  • Employer-sponsored health coverage
  • Coverage purchased through health insurance exchanges
  • Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Most Medicaid programs. (Requirements may vary from program to program. Contact your state Medicaid director if you are not sure whether the federal parity law applies to your Medicaid program.)

Medicare is not subject to the federal parity law and medicare patients may not have mental health coverage.

Some state government employee plans may also be exempt from the parity requirements.

Please verify what your insurance plan will cover with your insurance provider.

What mental health services are offered at Sky Lakes?

Sky Lakes offers comprehensive mental health care for children, teens, and adults. Services may include psychiatric evaluations, medication management, treatment for anxiety and depression, mood disorders, trauma-related conditions, and support for serious mental illness. Care is coordinated with primary care and specialty providers when needed.

What is the difference between psychiatry and therapy?

Psychiatry focuses on the medical diagnosis and treatment of mental health conditions, including prescribing and managing medications. Therapy (also called counseling or psychotherapy) focuses on talk-based treatment to help people cope with emotions, behaviors, and life challenges. Many patients benefit from using both together.

Do I need a referral to see a psychiatrist at Sky Lakes?

In many cases, a referral from a primary care provider is required, depending on your insurance plan. Your Sky Lakes primary care provider can help determine if a referral is needed and assist with the process.

Is mental health care confidential?

Yes. Mental health care at Sky Lakes is confidential and protected by federal and state privacy laws. Information is only shared when legally required or when necessary for your care and safety.

Do you offer medication management for mental health?

Yes. Psychiatry services include medication evaluation, prescribing, and ongoing monitoring to ensure medications are safe, effective, and adjusted as needed.

What should I expect at my first psychiatry appointment?

At your first visit, the psychiatrist will review your medical and mental health history, discuss symptoms, medications, and goals, and work with you to create a personalized treatment plan. Appointments are focused on understanding the whole person — not just symptoms.

Do you treat children and adolescents?

Mental health needs vary by age. Some psychiatry services may be available for children and adolescents. Your primary care provider can help determine appropriate services and referrals.
