Sky Lakes Offers the Latest Healthcare Tech to Patients

The Sky Lakes Diagnostic Imaging Department recently added the latest portable X-ray technology from GE Healthcare — the new AMX Navigate – the first of its kind in Oregon.

The mobile X-ray machine has increased bedside performance and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to aid radiology technologists, physicians and others in providing patient care and diagnosis.

The artificial intelligence feature automatically identifies critical conditions and assesses instrument placement to assist healthcare providers. This system helps identify conditions and streamlines workflow so that time-sensitive scans are prioritized. These features and advancements make bedside X-rays faster and more comfortable for patients.

All images go into the Sky Lakes PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) where they are accessible by physicians and others involved in patient care. This decreases the chance a physician might miss something and in the case of a chest X-ray, helps diagnose conditions associated with a collapsed lung.

The new machine’s arm raises higher and extends farther to reduce technologist strain during operation and helps with positioning and placement of ancillary equipment such as endotracheal tubes. It also provides onscreen quality checks to help improve image quality and workflow efficiency.

Additionally, images can be enhanced immediately after capture to improve clarity for different anatomies, tube and line placement, gauze and instrument checks, implant assessment, bone, and tissue without needing to take multiple X-rays. The new machine also decreases exam set-up time and radiation exposure.

This new AMX Navigate is an asset to our clinical departments, especially departments that provide patient care in the middle of the night like our Emergency Department. Its new features allow for easier exams from infants to adults.
