Behavioral Health and Sobering Center Opens on Foster Avenue

October 13, 2021, KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. – Klamath Basin Behavioral Health and Sky Lakes Medical Center today officially launched The Link Access Center, a collaborative behavioral health and sobering center in Klamath Falls.

The Link Access Center is now open and offers walk-in behavioral health services 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and voluntary sobering services 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It is located at 1501 Foster Ave., on the Klamath Works campus.

The Link Access Center, a collaborative project between Klamath Basin Behavioral Health and Sky Lakes Medical Center, provides a service entry point for individuals suffering from mental health and addiction challenges, and is designed to remove barriers to engaging in local behavioral health services. Collaboration at the new facility also includes staffing and operations support from The Klamath Tribes to ensure culturally responsive and best practice services for the Tribal community.

Mental health professionals staff The Link Access Center. They offer new client intakes, crisis walk-in response, alcohol and drug assessments, case management, peer support, community resource referrals, and Oregon Health Plan enrollment. This immediate access to a continuum of care will meet the needs of participants and improve access to mental health and addiction services in Klamath County.

In addition to providing a connection point to an array of behavioral health outpatient programs, The Link Access Center also is Klamath County’s first registered sobering facility.

Individuals who self-admit, who are in the custody of law enforcement for public intoxication or are in the care of Sky Lakes Medical Center for alcohol intoxication will be offered a secure and supervised environment to voluntarily sober. Discharge planning will give clients the opportunity to engage in substance use disorder services, and they’ll receive information and referrals to a variety of treatment options to support ongoing engagement.

Sobering services will support individual and community safety, ease the burden on the Klamath County Jail, reduce visits to the Sky Lakes Emergency Department for intoxication, and offer individuals the opportunity to engage in a plan for recovery.

The sobering portion of The Link Access Center contains five adult units and is open now to provide safe, temporary lodging 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
