Golf Like a Hero at the Sky Lakes Foundation Golf Tournament

The 7th annual Foundation Golf tournament is on June 26, 2026. This year’s theme: Golf Like a Hero.

Calling all superheroes! The Sky Lakes Foundation Golf tournament is on June 26, 2026. This year, proceeds will go towards building a Pediatric Therapy Treehouse in the new Sky Lakes Rehabilitation “megacenter” downtown. Early registration for a discounted fee ends on May 31, but you can register for the full price to play up to the night before as long as there are spots available.

Players can golf solo or on a team of four.

Golf Like a Hero

The theme, Golf Like a Hero, is more than just a fun excuse to golf in a superman costume. It’s a way for golfers to be heroes in a child’s life by supporting a program that helps children grow and develop through play.

“We wanted the theme this year to be kind of innocent and reminiscent of the people we are fundraising for. It’s a charity tournament so they are golfing for a cause: they are being a hero for a cause” said Grace Sherrill, development coordinator at the Sky Lakes Foundation.

Therapy Through Play

In the past, the tournament has supported one benefit per year, but this year the Foundation did something different; they asked Sky Lakes departments to apply to be the beneficiary for the tournament’s proceeds.

The Pediatric Therapy Tree house project is a planned play area in the pediatric rehab section of the upcoming Sky Lakes Rehabilitation megacenter, currently under construction. The treehouse will be a specialized place where children with physical, sensory, and developmental challenges can reach their milestones through the “therapy through play” model.

“Occupational therapy has such an impact on kids,” said Sherrill, “For a child or a parent of a child with a developmental delay, it can be a little disheartening to see other children play at a different level. The treehouse offers an opportunity for children to play on a structure at their developmental level.”

The reason for supporting this project is clear; the treehouse will let kids in therapy play like everybody else.

A Fundraising Goal

This year’s tournament goal is $15,000 and if reached, will cover a portion of the project’s cost. To help cover any remaining costs, the Foundation will continue to fundraise after the tournament. So, for anyone who isn’t into golfing, you can still donate to the fund. Right now, the treehouse project is the Foundation’s “area of most need” and funds donated via the donation form on their website will go towards the treehouse. Larger groups can also donate through a corporate donation.

This Year’s Golf Tournament

For those interested in golfing like a hero, the golf tournament is 18 holes (with a golf cart) at the Running Y Arnold Palmer Signature Golf Course. There will be snacks, lunch, games, 50/50 poker, an awards banquet, and on-theme opportunities to sabotage your competition.

The tournament schedule

  • Check in and warm up at 8 a.m.
  • Shotgun start at 9 a.m.
  • Lunch Banquet around 2:30 p.m. Awards to follow.

At check-in (and at registration) players will have the option to purchase 50/50 poker hands, mulligans (do-overs for non-golfers or those new to the sport), and for the first time in the tournament’s history, players can purchase kryptonite to sabotage another team or an immunity shield to protect themselves from kryptonite. Sherrill shared that a kryptonite sabotage might look like swinging with a pool noodle or driving a wiffle ball. All fun and games to support a heroic cause.

During the tournament, players will have opportunities for on-course games with prizes like an Oregon Tech athlete driving one of your holes for you. The lunch banquet will begin after the tournament (people start finishing their 18 rounds around 2:30 p.m.). This is when the Foundation will announce awards for the winning team and other awards like longest drive and winners for putting contests.

Superhero costumes are not required but greatly encouraged.

Early registration ends May 31, 2026
