Alleyway Art

As one, we rise.

As one, we create.

In a Downtown Klamath Falls alleyway once easy to overlook, something new is taking root. A group of like-minded community partners and local artists came together to honor women who helped shape the Klamath community through leadership, creativity, service, and love.

“Public art makes you think differently, makes you connect differently, and it inspires you.”

There’s a quiet alleyway in downtown Klamath Falls that looks a little different these days. Bright portraits line the brick walls. Florals stretch across concrete. And in each panel, there’s a story of a woman who gave something back to this place.

The Alleyway Activation project, supported in part by Healthy Klamath, was created to honor local women whose leadership and impact shaped the Klamath Basin. Some were educators, some public servants, others quiet forces behind beloved community efforts. Together, they represent the many ways people give back, and how lasting those contributions can be.

“You walk by it and you see these women and their unique accomplishments, you think to yourself, ‘could I do that?’”

Each artist had a personal tie to the woman they painted. One reconnected with her own story of perseverance in college. Another honored the memory of her grandmother and the friendships that powered a lifetime of service. Many reflected on the quiet power of women whose names may not be widely known but whose work left a deep mark on the community.

The result is a mural series that feels deeply rooted in place. It invites passersby to pause, to ask questions, and to wonder what kind of legacy they might help create.

Projects like this one remind us that when we invest in beauty, memory, and connection, we’re building more than a mural. We’re creating the kind of community we all want to live in. One that’s inspired, welcoming, and connected.

“When we can tap into our creativity every day, then we can start creating the kind of community that we love, that we are engaged in, that we are connected to.”
