07 May Jay’s Story
As one, we rise.
As one, we change.
Jay showed up to the Sky Lakes Community Health Fair to do his job—cover the event for the radio. But one blood pressure reading changed everything. Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke heard the number, stopped what she was doing, and pulled him aside.
“She didn’t just give me advice. She helped me change the course of my life.”
Jay didn’t go to the health fair for a checkup—he went for work. As a longtime radio host in Klamath Falls, he was there to cover and promote the event. In between interviews, he took part in a few of the stations. A blood pressure check turned into something much more.
Dr. Stephanie Van Dyke overheard the reading, pulled Jay aside, and looked him in the eye. “You need to sit down,” she told him. “This is bad. You could die right now.”
“It wasn’t like some doctor just doing the doctor thing. She was genuinely concerned about my well-being.”
The following Monday, Jay made an appointment with a primary care physician and began making major changes. He quit smoking. He started eating differently. He prioritized movement, sleep, and long-term health.

Stephanie passed away a few years later. But her impact lives on—in the Wellness Center she helped build, in the patients she cared for, and in people like Jay who never forgot what she did for them.
Jay says he wishes he could thank her in person. He hopes her family knows the difference she made—not just for him, but for so many others.
“I feel good about myself—and I haven’t in a really long time.”
