Will my insurance cover mental and behavioral health?

Sky Lakes Medical Center and its associated clinics accept a variety of commercial health insurance, workers’ compensation, Medicaid and Medicare plans.

Most insurance companies are required to cover mental health conditions the same way they cover physical health conditions under the federal Mental Health Parity Law. Although Health plans are allowed to exclude certain diagnoses. Please check with your insurance plan if you are uncertain about what is covered.

The Mental Health Parity Law generally applies to:

  • Employer-sponsored health coverage
  • Coverage purchased through health insurance exchanges
  • Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Most Medicaid programs. (Requirements may vary from program to program. Contact your state Medicaid director if you are not sure whether the federal parity law applies to your Medicaid program.)

Medicare is not subject to the federal parity law and medicare patients may not have mental health coverage.

Some state government employee plans may also be exempt from the parity requirements.

Please verify what your insurance plan will cover with your insurance provider.
