Sky Lakes Medical Center offers patients and families the extraordinary benefit of receiving support from our palliative care team.
Palliative care is patient-centered care with the primary goal of improving the quality of life for patients and their families experiencing discomfort or stress from a serious illness. This support differs from hospice in that palliative care may be utilized during aggressive treatment and in collaboration with specialists and primary care physicians at any stage of the illness.
The Sky Lakes palliative care team incorporates a certified palliative care nurse and promotes a multidisciplinary approach that relies on the input from a team of doctors, nurses, dietitians, physical therapists and other specialists to formulate a plan of care that best aligns with the patient’s and family’s established goals of care.
The medical center offers accommodations for a family member to stay with their loved one at all times and provides quiet space throughout the building for private reflection, prayer or meditation.
