Fun Run, walk Saturday to raise funds for diabetes research

Walk 4 A Cure, a 5K walk and fun run event to raise funds for diabetes research, will be Saturday at Steen Sports Park, according to a news release.
Participants may register online at team.jdrf.org/events and at the event, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Saturday. The race will start at approximately 9:30 a.m. and water and snacks will be provided, as well as medals for the top finishers.
Cost to participate is $15 per person and children age 5 and under may participate free of charge. A limited number of event T-shirts will be available to purchase, and will be available to order.
Trialnet, a network of Type 1 diabetes screening centers, will offer free screenings to family members of Type 1 diabetics to target those at highest risk of developing the disease. Drs. Carrie Ganong and Ralph Eccles of Sky Lakes Diabetes Services will be available to answer questions and providing educational materials about Type 1 diabetes.
All funds raised through the event will go toward Type 1 diabetes research through JDRF, formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
