Sky Lakes Medical center is marking its 50th anniversary this week with several events. In addition to displays on Sky Lakes Medical Center’s first floor — including a 50-foot timeline showing key moments in the history of local healthcare — the celebration includes:
Tuesday, Oct. 6 — Opening of a time capsule from 25 years ago that includes a smaller time capsule from 1965. The public is invited to the event, which begins at 12:30 p.m. on the north side of the medical center. Light refreshments will be served afterwards.
Friday, Oct. 9 — Birthday cake will be served beginning at noon in the medical center’s first-floor meeting rooms. The public is invited.
Saturday, Oct. 10 — The Golden 6K Fun Walk/Run begins at 10 a.m. from the main parking lot at Sky Lakes. The event is not timed and concludes at Sixth and Main streets. The route takes in several sites that played pivotal roles in the development of healthcare locally. Free maps available at the start identify the route, water stations, and activities along the way. A shuttle bus will run on the half-hour to return participants to the hospital parking lot. A guided bus tour also begins at 10 a.m. and generally follows the same route. Registration is $5 per person and entry forms are available at SkyLakes.org.
Monday, Oct. 12 — Items collected from Sky Lakes employees and volunteers, area physicians, and the community will be placed in a new time capsule that will be buried near the park on the north side of the building. The event begins at 3 p.m. and light refreshments will be available following.
