Sky Lakes Medical Center

Our History

When the Sky Lakes Medical Center leadership began exploring the idea of providing the community with a cancer treatment center, it was predicted that 200 new cases of cancer would be diagnosed annually in the areas we serve.

Don Boyd and others in the community launched an ambitious fund drive and raised nearly $2 million in 18 months. "In spite of many telling us we couldn’t do it," says Don, "we did it for ourselves."

Their hard work resulted in the Cancer Treatment Center, which opened in 1990.

Four hundred new patients were seen in our first year, and that figure has grown steadily.

The Cancer Treatment Center was remodeled and doubled in size in 1994. A second
floor and a second linear accelerator were added in the 2003 modernization.

The newest linear accelerator utilizes IMRT – Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy – for computer-customized tumor treatments.

Our care team uses a variety of other specialized tools, including a dedicated CT scanner, to tailor treatment plans for each individual receiving care here.

Patients undergoing chemotherapy have a view of the Cascade Mountains and Klamath Lake from the second-floor treatment area.
