Dr. Kramer

Dr. Brad Kramer was born and raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  He graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin and did his internship at St Joseph’s Hospital in Milwaukee.  He completed his training in Radiation Oncology at Tufts University in Boston and was on staff there for approximately 1.5 years before moving back to the Midwest to open and run a brand new high tech department in northern Illinois Most recently he worked in Appleton, Wisconsin, before the family decided to move out west to join us at the Sky Lakes Cancer Treatment Center.

He and his wife, Susan, enjoy nature and outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, river rafting, snow shoeing, etc.  They decided to move out west to be able to enjoy the beauty and natural wonders of mountainous Oregon.  Susan is an avid quilter, and you can see her art in Brad’s office at the Cancer Treatment Center.

Dr. Kramer has extensive experience using IMRT (Iintensity Modulated Radiotherapy)  dating back to 1996 at Tufts as well as with most forms of brachytherapy. IMRT delivers radiation more precisely to the tumor while relatively sparing the surrounding normal tissues. It uses the multi-leaf collimators in the head of the treatment machine (the linear accelerator or “linac”) to modulate the intensity of the beam to provide the most conformal radiation possible with photons.  It also introduces new concepts of planning and computer-controlled radiation treatment in contrast to the conventional trial-and-error approach. Simply put, IMRT delivers radiation with greater precision.

At Sky Lakes Cancer Treatment Center, we also use  “Image Guided Radiation Therapy” or IGRT.  Using IGRT along with IMRT allows us to increase certainty that we are hitting the targets and missing normal tissues as we have planned.

Dr. Kramer also has an active prostate permanent brachytherapy — implanting radioactive sources in the target — program.

Dr. Kramer had previously worked with Dr. Tzann Fang, medical oncologist and hematologist at Sky Lakes Medical Center, in Northern Illinois. Both of them share a very similar philosophy and ideas regarding cancer treatment and patient care.
