Sky Lakes Medical Center is committed to eliminating all types of preventable harm.
All health care is delivered by human beings – people who are dedicated to safe and effective treatment, yet people who are nonetheless imperfect beings. As such we know that harm occurs in hospitals. We believe our best opportunity for eliminating harm comes from shared learning.
We disclose our progress so that our patients and our community can be an active partner in helping us in this endeavor. We recognize that the healthcare industry is still learning how to make healthcare safer, and as we do a better job of detecting harm, the number of events reported my increase until methods are created to reduce the number of events.
Harm is the unintended physical injury in association with medical care that requires or prolongs hospitalization, and/or results in disability or death.
An injury is preventable if it allows us to identify reasonable improvements in care that would help decrease the likelihood of similar events occurring in the future.
