Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) is nutrition treatment or therapy that has been personalized to the individual.   A registered dietitian works with a person to develop a nutrition plan based on his/her medical history, dietary history, cultural preferences and his/her personal goals.  MNT is used to treat certain illnesses or other conditions or to prevent or delay the onset of a disease or complications of a disease such as diabetes.  It can be a very important part of diabetes education as well as education to manage or prevent other conditions such as heart disease, certain cancers, obesity, or high blood pressure.
