Infusion ServicesInfusion Services is a part of the Sky Lakes Medical Center Pharmacy. It began more than three decades ago as a hospital service and has expanded to include a home infusion branch for homebound patients.
Infusion Therapy is a medical procedure that you receive in your home or on a walk-in basis in our office that previously was done only while hospitalized. Medication or nutrients are delivered into your body by a needle inserted into your vein or by a flexible tube called a catheter.
People needing injections of infusion therapy (who don't require monitoring such as heart monitor) may include a range of medication from antibiotics to cure infections, to giving completed nutritional needs through an IV for those who are unable to eat.
In the past, hospitalization was required to receive infusion therapy. With the advent of special pumps and visiting nurses, you are now able to get well in the comfort of your own home, or as a walk-in patient in our office, rather than being in a hospital bed.
Home infusion therapy gets you back home with your family, increases your independence and control over your condition, and is generally less expensive than hospitalization.
You should discuss the best option for your needs with your physician. Your doctor will know if you'll need infusion therapy at home to begin with, and also project about when you'll be able to come into the office for therapy.
Infusion Services nurses are skilled in starting IVs on infants and children.
Among the infusion therapies we provide are:
The department is open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
