Outpatient Tests - What to Expect
We've taken some of the worry out of testing procedures by combining Outpatient Tests into one easy-to-find location. Whether you need a blood test, CT or MRI scan, X-ray, ultrasound procedure or mammogram, our friendly, knowledgeable staff will make sure you get an accurate test as quickly as possible to get you on your way. You’ll sign in for your test at the Registration Desk in the Sky Lakes Medical Center main lobby. Our helpful Guild volunteers at the Information Desk can help you find your way or get your questions answered. The Registration clerk will ask you a few questions to verify your records and then will give you a number, which will be called when it’s your turn. The number helps us protect your privacy and confidentiality. You can relax in our lobby while you wait, or, if you’d prefer to wait in the cafeteria or gift shop, you can request a pager. We’ll ring the pager when it’s your turn. When it’s your turn, we will guide you to your procedure area. For example, a private room is adjacent to the hospital lobby for convenient blood tests. Next, you'll be asked to verify your name and birth date before going onto your testing room. This helps us ensure your safety. Unless you're having a routine blood test, you'll likely be provided with a hospital gown to change into for your test. This will make it easier to get the results your physician needs. After you're changed, one of our healthcare professionals will guide you through the test and answer your questions each step of the way. Our specially trained and experienced Diagnostic Imaging technicians will help you understand your procedure, so don't hesitate to ask questions. After your test and you've changed out of your hospital gown into your street clothes, you may be asked to wait in the procedure room or in the lobby. Please remain in the hospital lobby until our Outpatient Tests staff clears you to leave. If additional tests are ordered, the Outpatient Tests staff will contact the appropriate department to let them know you are available. The appropriate department’s staff will escort you to additional test-taking locations. Once our skilled laboratory staff or radiologists analyze your test results, they will relay the results to your physician, who will then contact you with the information. A few days after your visit you may receive a mail survey asking you to rate your experience while here. We encourage you to complete it and return it in the included postage-paid envelope. Your observations will help us make things better for you. Learn more about the exams our Diagnostic Imaging staff performs. radiologyinfo.org |
