Adult Speech-Language Disorders
Inpatient and outpatient services for Adult speech and language disorders include therapy for:
Aphasia: Word-finding, sentence structures, using language effectively, understanding speech and written text.
Apraxia: Motor speech deficits resulting in difficulties in producing the correct sound or word for speech fluency.
Dysarthria: Difficulties with lip, jaw, cheek, tongue, and respiratory control and coordination to produce clear speech. Speech usually sounds slurred or discoordinated.
Linguistic-cognitive communication: Issues with memory, planning, problem solving, judgement, and impulsivity.
Brain Injury: Affects of brain injury could include one or all of the above areas. Causes could be: stroke, head injury, or aneurysm.
