Hospitalists

 What is a Hospitalist?

 A Hospitalist is the term used for doctors who are specialized in the care of patients in the hospital. This movement was initiated about a decade ago and has evolved due to many factors. These factors include:

  • convenience
  • efficiency
  • financial strains on primary care doctors
  • patient safety,
  • cost-effectiveness for hospitals
  • need for more specialized and coordinated care for hospitalized patients

Sky Lakes Medical Center has several hospitalists on staff, they are:

Grant Niskanen, MD and one of our administrators.  Dr. Niskanen is Board Certified in Family Practice and received his degree at George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences in Washington DC.

Greg Burnett, MD, studied at University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson and completed his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University - Cascades East in Klamath Falls.

Lindsay Burwell, MD, graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine in Portland, Oregon and completed her residency at Oregon Health Sciences University - Cascades East in Klamath Falls.

Abdulmetin Dursun, MD received his medical degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Matthew Edmonds, MD went to Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine and completed his residency at Oregon Health Sciences University - Cascades East in Klamath Falls.

Hesman Elmergawy, MD studied at Cairo University in Egypt and completed his residency at Monmouth Medical Center in New Jersey

Ann Kellogg, MD completed her medical degree at Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine of The Pacific - California.  She also completed her residency at Oregon Health Sciences University - Cascades East in Klamath Falls.

Mehta Amit, MD received his degree at  Kasturba Medical College, Manipal Academy of Higher Education and completed his residency at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

Andrew Trent, MD received his degree from University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis and completed his residency at Ventura County Medical Center in California.

Laina Holland, NP received her medical training at University of Phoenix in Arizona and finished at Graceland College.
